Walking is a great way to stay healthy. With just 30 minutes a day, it can help maintain and improve your overall health. Physical activity does not need to be vigorous or for a long period of time in order to help improve your health. Walking is low impact, requires very little equipment, and can be done at almost anytime of day, anywhere you are.
• Increased cardiovascular and pulmonary (heart and lung) fitness
• Reduced risk of heart disease and stroke
• Improved management of conditions such as hypertension (high blood pressure), high cholesterol, joint/muscular pain or stiffness, and diabetes
• Stronger bones and improved balance
• Increased muscle strength and endurance
• Reduced body fat
Modifying your day slightly in order to make walking a bigger part of your day can do wonders for your health. Try to walk at the same time every day if you can. Trying to make it part of your daily routine will only increase the likelihood of you actually doing it.
Try taking the stairs, try parking further away from the store, try walking to the store if it isn’t too far, try walking your dog every day. All these small changes can help you be healthier as you age.
There are a few things you can try in order to make walking more exciting as you attempt to make it a part of your lifestyle.
Remember that walking just 30 minutes per day can help you maintain or improve your health significantly. If you can’t do 30 minutes, that’s ok too. “Even a little is good, but more is better.”
Let’s all keep walking!
